Pawleys Island Festival of Music and Art The 2010 Pawleys Island Festival of Music and Art will be held September 21 – October 3. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Festival that was founded by Dr. Lee Minton in 1991. The 20th Annual celebration will kick off with the coveted Wine Gala fundraiser on Friday, September 24, followed by 2 weeks of both visual and performing arts from across the nation. Headlining the Festival this year will Steve March Torme, son of legendary jazz vocalist Mel Torme. Other acts include Cool John Ferguson, Marco Sartor, Judy Carmichael and the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra. Also, this year the Festival introduces a taste of Visual Arts. A Film Festival held in conjunction with Coastal Carolina University, Chalk Under the Oaks with a workshop by renowned street artist, Lee Jones, as well as a Gallery Crawl featuring trolley rides to area galleries are some of the Visual Art highlights. The finale will be held Sunday, October 3 featuring the Grand Strand Theatrical Youth Players. Children and adults of all ages will delight in this exciting and memorable performance. The Main Street Marketplace is an open-air market featuring fresh produce, baked goods, specialty gifts, art, photography, books, handmade & unique crafts, and much more every Friday beginning September 3 through October 29 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The market will be held on Boyd Plaza in front of the Columbia Museum of Art at the corner of Main and Hampton Streets in downtown Columbia. Admission is free. Complimentary shuttle service courtesy of City Center Partnership is available in the 36 block area downtown bounded by Gervais to Elmwood and Assembly to Marion Streets to pick up and drop off attendees. CCP produces the Main Street Marketplace to bring more people to the area to experience everything downtown Columbia has to offer.
